WELCOME TO THE SCREENING ROOM

At The Screening Room, we believe everyday dining should feel a little bit fabulous.

We're a restaurant, bar and boutique cinema in Masterton - and one of Wairarapa's most loved spots for great food, local wine and a genuinely good night out. Located in Kuripuni Village, we bring it all together under one roof.

From leisurely brunches and long lunches to shared tapas, memorable dinners and expertly crafted drinks, we've created a place where people can gather, celebrate and enjoy good company. Our restaurant menu draws on the incredible produce Wairarapa growers and makers have to offer, with flavours that travel a little further than the region.

Alongside the food, you'll find an impressive selection of wines by the glass, New Zealand craft beer, premium spirits and cocktails, ensuring there's something for every taste and every occasion.

Our boutique cinema offers a relaxed movie-going experience, complete with super-comfy seating, loads for leg room and the option to enjoy food and drinks while you watch.

Do I need to watch a movie to dine at The Screening Room?

Not at all. While we love a good film, our restaurant and bar are open to everyone - no ticket required. Join us for coffee and cake, brunch, lunch, dinner, drinks or High Tea, or simply use us as an excuse to catch up with friends.

Do I need to book a table?

Walk-ins are always welcome, but if you've got your heart set on a particular time, booking ahead is never a bad idea, especially on weekends and during busy periods. You can now book a table online.

Can I take food and drinks into the cinema?

Absolutely. One of the things that makes The Screening Room a little different is that you can enjoy food and drinks while you watch your film. Dine before your movie, or bring your tapas inside and enjoy both at once. But obviously, only food purchased at The Screening Room can be taken into the cinema.

What sort of food do you serve?

Our seasonal restaurant menu is inspired by the generous offerings of Wairarapa growers and producers, bringing together fresh local ingredients and bold flavours from around the world. We serve everything from shared tapas and grazing plates to indulgent desserts - alongside brunch and lunch favourites seven days a week.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes - our menu includes vegetarian and gluten-friendly options, and our kitchen team is happy to accommodate where they can. If you have specific dietary needs or allergies, just let us know when you book or speak with our team when you arrive.

Do you serve coffee?

Our coffee machine is the center of our universe! We know how important it is to have consistently great coffee, our baristas are the best in town!

What films do you show?

We screen a carefully curated mix of new releases, arthouse titles, documentaries and festivals throughout the year - from whimsical love stories and nail-biting thrillers to the kind of films that stay with you long after the credits roll. Check our current listings for what's on.

Do you host special events?

We certainly do. The Screening Room is a popular venue for private dining, celebrations, corporate functions, baby showers, hen's parties and private screenings.
