The Screening Room
With over 25 years of experience in the hospitality Industry, Wairarapa identities Eve and Travis Clive-Griffin have bought a fresh approach to food and entertainment to the region.
The Screening Room adds to the already bustling Kuripuni village atmosphere with a sophisticated, state-of-the-art two-screen cinema and a lively, modern restaurant catering to a diverse range of tastes.
The Screening Room Eatery is based on the highly popular style of small ‘tapas-style’ sharing plates. The menu changes regularly with the seasons and the drinks list features an extensive selection of craft beers and wines, with 40 wines offered by the glass.
The Screening Room is about people. She simply wouldn’t exist without them!
The Screening Room is also about choice – and the choice is yours. Enjoy a delicious meal before a film, pop in for coffee and cake, have a celebration dinner and drinks with friends or just head in for a movie and take in a platter and glass of wine!
We are open 10am–late 7 days.
Movie tickets cost $16 for adults, and $13 for seniors and children (13 and under).
Chef Travis Clive-Griffin has worked with food his whole life. As a 10-year-old kitchen hand he stood on a milk crate to wash dishes. At 14 he’d left school for a chef apprenticeship. And by his early twenties he was working for a Michelin starred chef in the United Kingdom. Travis and your co-host, his wife Eve, have worked together in hospitality for three decades and most recently created Greytown’s Saluté Tapas Restaurant & Bar which they successfully operated for 16 years.
Travis’ Lebanese heritage certainly informs his palate but he draws culinary influences from around the globe. By offering his signature small tasting plates – ‘tapas-style’ – Travis encourages you to select a number to share. This is conscious food, food for nutrition as well as social occasion. It’s a fresh, lively, modern cuisine which changes with the seasons or on a chef’s whim.
The Screening Room Eatery seats 60, with another 70 on a large outdoor deck and we are equally at home catering for a group or an intimate dinner for two. You are most welcome to drop in for coffee with a colleague, an evening drink, family Sunday brunch or a slap-up celebration dinner. Our menu has vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options, and we have a separate vegan menu available on request. The drinks list features an extensive selection of craft beers and wines with 40 available by the glass, and selected plates are available to take in to the cinema. We can also host private functions.
