The Screening Room
After a successful 16-year run at Greytown’s Saluté Tapas Restaurant & Bar, Wairarapa identities Eve and Travis Clive-Griffin are bringing a fresh approach to food and entertainment in the region.
The Screening Room adds to the already bustling Kuripuni village atmosphere with a sophisticated, state-of-the-art two-screen cinema and a lively, modern restaurant catering to a diverse range of tastes.
The Screening Room complex is purpose-built and brand new. The corner site faces perfectly into the afternoon sun with substantial outdoor seating creating a cosmopolitan vibe. The interior décor displays attention to detail with re-purposed parquet flooring and quality fittings. Two 60-seat boutique cinemas feature the latest technology and screen a considered combination of art house, indie and Hollywood films while the Eatery has seating for 120 people and is equally at home hosting groups or an intimate table for two.
Travis Clive-Griffin has created a fantastic new menu for The Screening Room Eatery based on his highly popular signature style of small ‘tapas-style’ sharing plates. The menu will change regularly with the seasons and the drinks list features an extensive selection of wines and craft beers.
The Screening Room is about people. We respect and welcome our customers, staff and suppliers equally and like to feel we look after everyone we come into contact with.
The Screening Room is also about choice – and the choice is yours. Enjoy a delicious meal before a film, pop in for coffee and cake, have a celebration dinner and drinks with friends or just head in for a movie.
We are open 10am–late weekdays; 9.30am–late weekends. Movie tickets cost $16 for adults, and $13 for seniors and children.
Chef Travis Clive-Griffin has worked with food his whole life. As a 10-year-old kitchen hand he stood on a milk crate to wash dishes. At 14 he’d left school for a chef apprenticeship. And by his early twenties he was working for a Michelin starred chef in the United Kingdom. Travis and your co-host, his wife Eve, have worked together in hospitality for three decades and most recently created Greytown’s Saluté Tapas Restaurant & Bar which they successfully operated for 16 years.
Travis’ Lebanese heritage certainly informs his palate but he draws culinary influences from around the globe. By offering his signature small tasting plates – ‘tapas-style’ – Travis encourages you to select a number to share. This is conscious food, food for nutrition as well as social occasion. It’s a fresh, lively, modern cuisine which changes with the seasons or on a chef’s whim.
The Screening Room Eatery seats 120 including a large outdoor area and we are equally at home catering for a group or an intimate dinner for two. You are most welcome to drop in for coffee with a colleague, an evening drink, family Sunday brunch or a slap-up celebration dinner. Our menu has vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, the drinks list features an extensive selection of wines and craft beers and selected plates are available to take in to the cinema. We can also host private functions.
